Yodel has cut 60 lorry driver roles in a bid to become a “locker-first service”, according to the GMB union.

It said the delivery business, which was acquired by InPost last year, told workers this week that it was “with regret” around 60 HGV driver roles would go across its sites in Hatfield, Hertfordshire and Wednesbury in the West Midlands.

Nicola Savage, GMB national officer, said: “Cutting these jobs is both cruel and short sighted.

“Our hard working, dedicated members are devastated.

“Agency usage is at a high in Yodel, whilst loyal employed workers face the axe.”

At the time of the acquisition, InPost said its purchase built on a partnership between the two companies that began in 2024, when Yodel began providing last-mile services through InPost’s locker-to-door service.

A Yodel by Inpost spokesperson said: “As InPost continues to grow, we regularly review our network to ensure we remain responsive to customer demand and aligned with our long-term strategy.

“As part of that review, we have entered a period of consultation regarding a number of LGV1 driver roles across two of our sites.

“We are fully committed to supporting all potentially affected colleagues through this process, and we will do everything we can to retain roles wherever possible.”

The Yodel name is expected to be replaced this year as part of a rebranding strategy.
