Yodel is to open 56 stores in Northern Ireland after identifying the region as a key market for its out of home (OOH) network.

The plans comes off the back of the courier’s partnership with PayPoint, which enabled it to team up with Spar Northern Ireland, owned by Henderson Group.

The latest partnership expands Yodel’s Northern Ireland OOH network to 273 locations.

It said consumers could access its store-to-store and store-to-door services, which provide customers with flexible options for sending and receiving deliveries.

As part of the expansion plan, it has also broadened its locker offering in the region, having opened over 50 lockers since May 2023.

Northern Ireland has performed well for the company, with some stores regularly handling up to 1,000 parcels a week.

In addition, nine out of the top 10 busiest stores in Yodel’s ranking are all based in the region.

Sam Holden, Yodel CCO said: “As customers increasingly look for greater choice in parcel delivery options and seek out more sustainable solutions, we’ve seen steadily increasing demand for out of home collections.

“Northern Ireland has already proven to be one of the busiest regions for OOH across the UK and with this expansion into more stores we can continue to meet demand and remain flexible to changing trends in the retail sector.”

Yodel is currently embroiled in a legal row with its former director Jacob Corlett, who was involved in the botched acquisition of the courier firm last year.

The entrepreneur is part of a group of warrant holders who have filed a formal demand for shares they claim to own.

Yodel has rejected the claim.
