XPO Logistics has bought a fleet of 31 natural powered Iveco tractor units, which are now operating in Paris out of a new pallet hub in Bondoufle.
The 44-tonne Stralis Natural Power vehicles run on liquefied natural gas, generating a claimed 70% less N02 and 96% less fine particle emissions than a Euro-6 engine.
They are being used to deliver to Paris and the wider Île-de-France region.
The tractor units bolster XPO’s current fleet of five gas-powered vehicles. The five trucks were trialed over a six month trial period in a simulation of the work that the new Ivecos are now undertaking.
The former Norbert Dentressangle said it is the first French operator to fully integrate gas power into its standard transport operation.
Luis Angel Gomez, XPO Logistics MD, transport solutions for Europe, said: “The Bondoufle fleet investment is further proof of our focus on reducing our carbon footprint.
"In addition to serving customers with the largest fleet in Europe, we now offer the cleanest fleet of heavy goods vehicles in the market.”
Iveco chairman Pierre Lahutte added: “We are proud to have been chosen by XPO Logistics for this project – one of the most important launches in Europe to date.
"XPO Logistics is setting an example for the industry.”
