4PL X2 (UK) has appointed James Smith to be its new commercial director, saying it marked a major step forward in its expansion plans and market leadership.
Smith has nearly two decades’ experience in logistics, beginning in freight forwarding and including managing owner-driver networks across the UK.
He most recently led a team of 20 UK and European forwarders, alongside an administrative support function.
“I’ve always had a particularly keen interest in 4PL transport,” he said.
“As a major 4PL provider, X2 (UK)’s operations and forward-thinking leadership really attracted me to the company.
“There’s also a remarkably friendly atmosphere there. They’re a hardworking but welcoming group, and that resonated with me.”

In his new role, Smith’s immediate focus will be on expanding the company’s footprint: “My priorities are to grow the business by attracting the correct customer type to the company,” he explained.
“I also want to strengthen haulier partners within the business and strategically place partners in line with our growth.
“Communication with customers, even if it’s an issue, is key. Proactive communication and attention to detail are huge factors.”
He added: “X2 (UK) may be an asset-light operation, but it also has a small fleet of vehicles on contracted work that are readily available for peak periods.
“That gives us a distinct advantage.”
