Asda has renewed Wincanton’s contract to manage and operate the supermarket’s DCs in Doncaster and Larne, Northern Ireland.

The renewal runs until early 2016, and extends a relationship begun in 2005 at Larne and 2007 in Doncaster, which was Asda’s first NDC for general merchandise.

Asda distribution director, Ian Stansfield, said: “Wincanton has demonstrated a real partnership approach with the Asda team and a strong commitment to driving efficiencies and helping us to reduce our carbon footprint in our distribution operations.

“Both the Doncaster and Larne sites have delivered excellent service levels to our stores and the Wincanton team work seamlessly with the Asda business to develop solutions to support this rapidly changing business.”

Stansfield added that it was a measure of Asda’s confidence in Wincanton that it had already awarded the contract to run its new DC in Rochdale to the logistics giant.

Covered by MT in June, Wincanton won a five-year contract to operate the grocer’s north-west DC in Greater Manchester. The 493,000ft² new-build facility, which opened in September, handles chilled and frozen orders, with Wincanton delivering to Asda stores along the M62 corridor.
