Walkers Transport is tackling the driver employment crisis by launching a ‘Warehouse to wheels’ scheme, which gives aspiring drivers a route into full-time careers.
The fully-funded, two-year course with an optional third year covers all areas of warehousing and transport and gives the next generation of drivers the opportunity to earn while they learn.
The starting salary is £18,000 and this rises for each year successfully completed to a post-scheme salary of £28,000.
The optional final year sees all learners work towards the completion of a transport supervisor advanced apprenticeship, through which they can acquire their CPC, team leading level 3 diploma and CILT membership.
Driver trainer John Burbeck said: “I joined Walkers as a driver with a training background, so I was given responsibility to show people the ropes.
“This course is a great opportunity for aspiring drivers to enhance their skillset and learn the business inside out. The guarantee of a job at the end of the programme shows that Walkers are committed to providing a secure future for its employees.”
