United Biscuits has taken delivery of 20 tri-axle longer semi-trailers from Cartwright.
The own-account operator, known for brands such as KP Nuts, Jaffa Cakes and McVities, is running the 15.6m curtainsiders from its DC in Ashby de la Zouche, Leicestershire.
The rear command-steer trailers are painted in six different liveries and have insulated load bearing curtains to protect their chocolate products.
Rob Wright, United Biscuits UK and Ireland logistics controller, said: “We can now get 60 pallets on these longer semi-trailers compared to 52 pallets before, so we are benefitting from 15% additional capacity.
“Our customers are recognising this benefit as we are arriving at their RDC’s with fewer vehicles. It is good for overall efficiency and improving our carbon footprint.”
The new trailers are part of the company’s 250 strong trailer fleet, which serves customers and United Biscuits’ 11 factories across the UK.
Last year the multi Motor Transport Awards-winning operator took a delivery of 50 refrigerated trailers from Cartwright.
