Travis Perkins has opened an 11-acre RDC in Appleton, Warrington, which it hopes will improve stock availability at branches in the area.
The predominantly own-account operator will run 20 vehicles from the site, which includes 99,500ft² of storage space and 2,938 racking locations.
Offices and staff areas will take up 11,267ft² of additional space at the RDC (pictured below), which employs 105 staff.
The site will serve 150 branches in the area and Travis Perkins says will allow branches to now promise customers that more stock will be in the following day if they sell of a particular product.
Chief operating officer Andrew Harrison said: “We’re incredibly excited about what this means for our customers. As their local timber and builder’s merchant we can provide them with the largest possible range of quality materials, available at a time to suit them.”
Travis Perkins last year awarded a £14m contract extension to DHL Supply Chain, covering deliveries out of the builders merchant’s Northampton DC.
