Transport managers are often the unsung heroes of any logistics operation, and to recognise their contribution Motor Transport is launching a new Transport Manager of the Year Award as part of the 2013 MT Awards.
Juggling the needs of the business to make a profit, the demands of customers for high service levels and the absolute requirement to run legally at all times, transport managers are the people who make transport work.
Senior TC Beverley Bell (pictured, centre, at the 2012 Awards) welcomed the new award to recognise the importance of the transport manager’s vital role in running a safe, compliant operation.
"I am pleased to see the introduction of an award which allows the industry to recognise and celebrate the value of its transport managers,” she said. “CPC holders play an essential role ensuring that operators, drivers and fleets are compliant. Commissioners understand that they work in challenging environments and recognise the pressures they face, so this award will be important in promoting those individuals who have made significant achievements during the year."
This award, sponsored by Tachodisc, is for a qualified transport manager running a fleet of 11 or more LGVs or LCVs. Judges will be looking for an outstanding individual who shows a good grasp of all facets of the job and goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the profitable, safe, legal and efficient running of their fleet.
Karen Crispe, MD of Tachodisc, said: “We are proud to be supporting this new MT award which serves to recognise the valuable contribution transport managers make to the logistics industry. Transport managers are the hub of any operation, and we understand all too well how challenging this role can be in terms of having to balance compliance needs with the commercial aspects of the business; we therefore look forward to showcasing and celebrating the important role this profession plays at the 2013 MT Awards.”
Entry forms for the 2013 MT Awards will be online in January at mtawards.co.uk
