Three arrested after HGV driver claims he was dragged from cab in attempted assault

A lorry driver was allegedly dragged from his cab on the A19 last week by the occupants of a Mercedes car before an attempt was made to assault him.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage of the incident, which occurred at around 6.25pm on the northbound A-road near to Billingham on Monday 19 April.

Cleveland police said the blue Mercedes pulled across the carriageway, stopping the HGV on a slip road near to Wolviston interchange, before the driver was pulled out of his vehicle.

The driver managed to get back into his vehicle and call police at a nearby services.

Three males aged 22, 23 and 33 have since been arrested in connection with the incident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have dash cam footage which could assist the investigation is asked to call PC David Ryder on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident number 061899.
