The Swain Group has purchased Derby-based Jeffrey’s Haulage for an undisclosed sum.
The Kent-based group, which includes R Swain & Sons and the recently purchased Gatwick Plant, acquired the asset, vehicles, workshops and business of Jeffrey’s Haulage in a deal that completed on Friday (15 July).
Jeffrey’s operates from a 16.5 acre site in Woodville, where it has 105,000ft² of racked warehouse and a 73,459ft² transport operations, workshop and administration block.
The company’s vehicle fleet comprises of 32 tractor units, 60 trailers and four 18-tonne rigids engaged in curtain-sided work.
Swain said that the Jeffrey’s Haulage name would remain and the business will operate as a stand-alone company within the group, forming part of the logistics division.
Fred Perkin will remain at the helm of the business as MD of Jeffrey’s Haulage.
Paul Kavanagh, Swain Group MD, said: ”This is a good acquisition that fits with the company strategy to acquire businesses operating in appropriate growth sectors.
“The Jeffrey’s operation will complement our existing depot structure, further strengthening our position in the Midlands. It will also enable us to deliver value through a combined general haulage and Tautliner operation in Swadlincote on one site”.
Perkin said “We’re confident that the sale of the business will further enhance the ongoing development within the company to achieve and maintain quality standards for the services we provide. R Swain & Sons match a desire and enthusiasm to be the best at what we do.“
The company bolstered its special projects division last autumn with the purchase of Gatwick Plant.
