Commercial vehicle sector efforts to reduce fleet emissions were celebrated at the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership’s Low Carbon Champions Awards held at Milton Keynes last night.
Scania GB took home the Low Carbon Heavy Duty Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year accolade for its work across the truck and bus sectors in developing a range of affordable, reliable Euro-6 gas vehicles.
The judges praised its biofuel innovation in the difficult-to-tackle HGV market.
Tevva Motors, meanwhile, scooped the award for Low Carbon Innovation by an SME for the development of its range-extended 7.5-tonne truck technology.
The judges said it could “significantly reduce emissions” for both new and existing fleet vehicles.
Bibby Distribution and the John Lewis Partnership were both named as finalists in the Low Carbon Vehicle Operator of the Year Award, which was won by First Bus.
An Outstanding Individual in Promoting Low Carbon Transport gong was presented to former TfL commissioner Sir Peter Hendy, for his work in implementing a number of emission-reduction schemes during his time in London, such as the Congestion Charge, as well as his leadership in deployment of cleaner, hybrid buses.
H2 Aberdeen – which has developed a strategy for the introduction of cleaner, hydrogen-powered transport to the Scottish city – and Argent Energy – which has developed a drop‐in diesel replacement for cars, buses and trucks – were jointly presented with the night's top accolade; the ‘Grand Prix’, or winner of winners, award.
