New research has shown that the parcel and delivery sector are in desperate need of business development managers.
Talent finding company Bis Henderson Recruitment highlighted a 160% increase in demand for BDMs in 2021 compared to 2019 - and an increase in average salaries for the role of 31%.
The parcel industry has grown rapidly in the last few years, driven largely by the impact of the pandemic. Statista’s figures show that annual volumes of packages shipped in the UK have grown from 1.8 billion in 2013-14 to 4.2 billion over 2020-21.
Bis Henderson Recruitment consultant, Laura Butler, said: “A good business development manager can pretty much walk into a role and demand the salary they want.
“Too few young people in their 20s and early 30s are aware of the fantastic opportunities that exist in the logistics sector. Some businesses are offering signing on bonuses to tempt strong candidates, as well as good commissions on top of a healthy salary.
“There are also great opportunities for career development, with plenty of potential for promotion,” she added.
