The Hazchem Network said it had identified a quarter-sized gap in the market and will launch the new pallet dimension through the network in January.
With a height up to 0.6m and weight up to 250kg, it said quarter pallets were ideal for shipments too large for Hazchem’s parcel service but don’t quite require a half pallet, such as batteries or paint.
Hazchem MD Rob Symes said: “Hazchem has offered full pallets, half pallets and parcels for many years.
“The gap in the range was the quarter pallet.
“Our network members were very keen for us to introduce the quarter pallet as this is often a requirement when talking to new customers.”
The new service means members can offer a full range of pallet sizes, plus parcels, to their customers and provide the full flexibility they have been requesting,
“We are also mindful of protecting all our members’ interests and so we do not plan to introduce any smaller pallet sizes,” Symes added.
“We feel we now have the complete range of pallet sizes that our members want.
“Hazchem primarily services the dangerous goods market. The quarter pallet is ideally suited for things like smaller-sized lithium-ion batteries, single layers of 25-litre containers or tins of paint – this is all freight that we handle large amounts of daily.”
