Leicester-based Premier Logistics is to move to a new home this autumn, which will allow it to significantly grow its warehousing business as well as offer new services.
The company will leave its Meridian Business Park home to move to a new DC at a 200,000ft² former factory site, which also comes with significant office space, on Beveridge Lane.
The location, previously owned by automotive supplier Schlegle Automotive until the firm’s administration last autumn, is currently being converted with Premier planning to move in from the 1 October.
Initially on a long-term lease, the contract contains a right to buy clause for the site.
Mark Steel, commercial manager at Premier Logistics, said the significant increase in space (the firm’s current home has around 40,000ft² of warehousing space, and it also takes space at the Pall-Ex hub in Coalville), will allow it to significantly expand its warehousing operation.
Premier Logistics is also considering introducing a rejected-loads service for other hauliers, and will relocate its vehicle maintenance unit, opened earlier this year at Meridian, to its new base of operations.
Steel aid that with the company growing strongly, as well as the extension of its network with the opening of its first southern hub earlier this month, it was finding more synergies in regards full-load work, “which along with our growing reputation, means we are working with people now that we weren’t before”.
Lee Christopher, MD at Premier Logistics, added: “It was big local news when Schlegle went into administration and a shock to all who worked there. We hope to employ more quality, local people and a new prosperity to the area.”
Although Premier Logistics will be recruiting for roles across its operation to support the move, it is initially looking for Category C and category C+E LGV drivers as its 140-strong vehicle fleet continues to grow.
