P&O Ferrymasters has won a new €225m (£187m) pan-European road transport contract with Tata Steel Europe (TSE).

The three-year deal, which commenced last month, sees goods collected from TSE’s UK hubs in south Wales, Corby and Scunthorpe, for delivery across Europe, with cross-border distribution co-ordinated from Ijmuiden steelworks in The Netherlands.

Transport operations at each UK plant are run by dedicated on-site teams headed up by P&O general manager, contract logistics and TSE contract manager Mike Shannon.

P&O Ferrymasters managing director Bas Belder said: “We have been working with Tata Steel Europe for many years now and I am very pleased that our strong relationship is continuing into 2014 and beyond."

He added: "Our focus has always been to continually improve the overall service offering and work closely with TSE on how we deliver it. Our operational, health and safety and development teams, along with our enhanced IT systems, will ensure that we maintain this approach in the future.”
