Palletways has confirmed that the work undertaken by Caledonian Logistics has been spread between two of its members in an effort to shore up a void left by the collapsed haulier in Scotland.

Long-standing member PPS Logistics has extended its operations to include the north of Glasgow, Stirling, Clackmannanshire and Dumbartonshire from its depot in Cumbernauld.

New Palletways member GS Light Haulage, which took over Caledonian Logistics’ contract with Palletways days before it entered administration, has taken control of the Aberdeenshire and Highland areas of work from its depots in Aberdeen and Inverness.

Inverness-based Caledonian Logistics called in the administrators last month, just three years after being acquired by Staffordshire-based company Drac Logistics.

The haulier blamed “challenging trading” conditions and a lack of funding support from its parent company.

It employed around 130 staff and held an operating licence for 80 trucks and 103 trailers. The surrender of its licence for HGVs running out of bases in Inverness, Cumbernauld, Oldmeldrum and Kintore is now under consideration by the office of the traffic commissioner.

Explaining how Palletways moved swiftly to replace the work previously carried out by Caledonian Logistics, a network spokesman said: “This development underscores Palletways’ position as Scotland’s leading palletised freight network, ensuring that businesses across these regions continue to receive unparalleled service and support.

“PPS Logistics, a distinguished award-winning member of our network, has consistently delivered significant commercial success and will bring the same dedication to its expanded territory. Likewise, GS Light Haulage, known for its operational excellence and industry expertise, is well-equipped to strengthen our offering in the Highlands.

“By leveraging the strengths of these trusted members who are dedicated to the Palletways network, we have further enhanced our ability to provide innovative, reliable, and efficient logistics solutions across Scotland, reinforcing our commitment to the success of businesses throughout the region,” the spokesman added.
