XPO Transport Solutions bolstered its fleet last week by another 239 lorries and 217 trailers, boosting total truck numbers to 3,537 and its trailer count to 5,044, according to the latest figures from MT Fleet Data.
However, Cemex saw the biggest drop in fleet numbers in the week, with truck numbers tumbling to 1,028, down by 99 vehicles, and its trailer fleet shrinking 15 to 497.
Every week Motor Transport Fleet Data lists the fleet numbers of the UK’s largest third party and own account HGV fleet operators.
The weekly report covers over 1,000 UK fleets that have O-licences for 75 or more vehicles over 3.5 tonnes GVW.
MT Fleet Data’s latest report also shows Amazon UK boosting its fleet, adding 30 trucks and 11 trailers to its fleet, reversing last week’s drop. The increase leaves the company with 180 trucks and 488 trailers.
Another company adding to its fleet during the week was Feltham-based Haulageman, which doubled its truck number to 100 and boosted its fleet of trailers by a massive 60 vehicles, bringing the total number of trailers in the fleet to 85 vehicles.
Chelmsford-headquartered Woodland Logistics’ fleet is also on the rise, with 25 lorries joining its cohort, bringing the total number to 193 trucks, while its trailer fleet was boosted with another 62 vehicles to a total of 295 trailers.
Other companies enhancing fleet numbers last week include Leeds-based utilities and infrastructure specialist Lanes Group, which added 44 lorries and 16 trailers, bringing its fleet to a total of 952 trucks and 95 trailers, and Coalville-based Premier Logistics (UK) with the addition of 20 trucks and 35 trailers to its fleet, making a total of 83 trucks and 174 trailers.
Qualitech Environmental Services (QES) and Link2London both appeared for the first time in MT Fleet Data’s radar during the week, with QES recording a fleet of 60 trucks and 85 trailers and Link2London recording 65 trucks and 20 trailers, indicating that both companies have boosted their fleets from below the 50 vehicle lower limit.
Fleets that saw their numbers drop last week include Cemex, Arra Distribution and C Butt.
Cemex saw its truck fleet reduced by 99, bringing the total numberof lorries to 1,028, while its trailer total fell by 15 to 497.
Meanwhile Northanpton haulier C Butt now has 60 trucks, down 10 and 85 trailers, after cutting 20 vehicles from the fleet.
Welsh logistics firm Arra Distribution also recorded a fleet reduction, amounting to 20 trucks and 20 trailers, bringing the fleet numbers to 67 and 86 respectively.
Preston firm JN Civils also saw a decline in truck numbers, down by 15 to 103. Meanwhile the trailer fleet was reduced by just one to five.
Ipswich surfacing contractor Toppesfield also reduced its fleets, dropping 10 trucks and five trailers to leave a total of 96 trucks and 62 trailers in its fleet.
MT Fleet Data is based on the weekly O-licence updates issued by the Office of the Traffic Commissioners. It enables subscribers to quickly identify operators in each of the eight traffic areas based on the number of vehicles on the licence and type of operator.
The data available includes operator profiles, directors and depot addresses. Because the data is published by the OTC it can be used for research and marketing purposes.
The weekly report from MT covers over 1,000 UK fleets that together have O-licences for over 300,000 trucks and 240,000 trailers – more than 540,000 commercial vehicles in total.
