Hampshire-based family haulage firm WJ Bennet & Son has fallen into administration.

The company, which has its principal trading address at Lasham, near Alton, Hampshire, has appointed insolvency practitioners David Taylor and Paul Ellison of KRE Corporate Recovery in Reading as its joint administrators.

W J Bennett & Son, which employs around 13 staff, offers a range of services ranging from general haulage and cabin and container movements to water treatment works installations and the transport and installation of fine art and sculpture works.

The company entered administration on 12 February, despite reporting positive net assets in its most recent accounts for the year ending 31 October 2024.

The firm’s bill for wages, pension and social security costs jumped from £327,044 in 2023 to £727,999 in 2024, according to its accounts.

WJ Bennett owned around £2.1m of physical assets, whilst net assets stood at £137,478 (2023: £79,433). 

The amount owed to creditors, falling due after more than one year, amounted to £2.5m, down from £2.8m in the previous year.

Cash at hand and in the bank stood at £86,327, up from £23,789 in 2023.

Attempts to reach the company have yet to succeed.
