Third generation family-run haulier Sunhill Transport has filed a Notice of Intention (NOI) to appoint an administrator, 54 years after the company was founded.
Launched in 1972, Sunhill Transport is based in Deeside, North Wales and is led by father and son team Pete and George Jones.
Sunhill Transport specialises in delivering steel, building materials and horticulture products and has an operating licence for 20 trucks and 70 trailers.
One of its major clients was the Tata steelworks at Shotton in Deeside.
Hauliers on social media sites lamented the company’s troubles this week, citing its reputation for being fair employers, who took the time to train up new drivers.
One commented: “When will we get the support and backing we deserve. Capped fuel duty would be the easiest place to start.”
Sunhill Transport filed the papers in court on 14 April, via law firm Hill Dickinson.
The NOI protects the company from creditor action for 10 days, allowing it time to arrange rescue options such as a pre-pack administration or a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).
Attempts by MT to contact the company directors and Hill Dickinson for comment have yet to succeed.
