Long-standing Shell customer S J Messenger Haulage has transitioned its 49-strong vehicle fleet over to Shell’s single-card fuel solution, having been impressed by its online account management services and fuel prices.

MD Lee Messenger said: “We’ve used a variety of different fuel card providers in the past, but Shell is the best by far. Our account manager is brilliant, and she negotiated a great offer for us which is really working well now we’ve rolled it out across the fleet.

“The online account access and invoicing makes a huge difference, particularly being able to monitor usage and identify anomalies that could point to potential mechanical problems before they occur. The transparency of the system can also alert us to potential thefts, or even undesired and erratic driving – the data supports our telematics system and feeds into the overall efficiency of the business.”

S J Messenger’s full fleet of 49 trucks are spread across two depots, Cosby and Kegworth, with each vehicle covering approximately 50,000 km per year.

“The drivers are very happy with the availability of sites around the country, they’re travelling on most major routes across the UK,” Messenger added. ”A massive perk for them is also the rewards they can generate off the back of their purchases, it makes all the difference to be able to pick up a free coffee and a snack when you spend most of your time on the road,” 

Shell’s portfolio also includes an international solution, giving users access to high-speed pumps in 37 different European nations and the ability to pay for additional services like ferry fares, tolls, and tax support.

S J Messenger Haulage is a family-owned business based in Leicestershire, founded in 1987 by Stephen and Amanda Messenger. Their three children, Lee, Heidi, and Nina, now own and control the firm, which focuses on transporting construction materials, predominantly bricks and blocks.

The company has experienced significant growth since the change of ownership in 2016, increasing its fleet by more than 300%, making S J Messenger Haulage one of the largest crane operated hauliers in the Midlands.
