Strike action among 120 warehouse workers at Movianto over a pay deal row has been called off following an improved offer put forward by the specialist medical company.
Unite said the distribution of hospital and pharmacy supplies would face disruption after staff rejected a “poverty” pay deal and slammed the company for its “greed”.
The strikes were due to take place from 9 September to 7 October, but the union said these have now been postponed for 21 days in order for a ballot to take place on the “improved offer”.
Unite said the dispute centred around the warehouse workers’ lack of paid breaks and low wages. They rejected a 3.5% pay offer from Movianto and demanded a pay rise “that better reflects the rising cost of living and paid breaks”.
Unite regional officer Jaswinder Singh said: “Following an improved offer from Movianto, Unite has suspended strikes in order to ballot the workers on the proposed deal.”
Movianto is part of the Yusen Group.
