HGV drivers at waste company Veolia’s Grangemouth site have secured a 9% pay rise after rejecting an initial offer of 3%, union Unite has revealed this week.
The one-year deal, backdated to January 2026, will see an increase in members’ pay of around £1.20 per hour which equates to pay rises worth up to 9%.
A previous pay offer of 3% had been “overwhelmingly” rejected by the Veolia workers leading to the enhanced pay deal, the union added.
The Veolia workers covered by the deal includes HGV drivers, operatives, team leaders and supervisors.
Unite general secretary, Sharon Graham, said: “The pay deal at Veolia based in Grangemouth is the latest example of Unite members standing together to get what they deserve. It’s another win for Unite securing better jobs, pay and conditions for workers.”
Unite industrial officer Pat Egan, added: “Unite has delivered a major pay win for our membership at Veolia.
“The workers have achieved inflation beating wage rises across the board which builds on years of success at the Grangemouth plant.”
Veolia’s Grangemouth facility services the oil, gas, and manufacturing sectors, providing site maintenance, decontamination, hazardous waste management, and specialist industrial cleaning.
HGV drivers employed at the site operate specialist vehicles such as vacuum tankers, high-airflow machines, and waste transport fleets, with drivers often requiring specialised qualifications including ADR certification, to handle industrial and environmental services.
Veolia has yet to respond to MT’s request for comment.
