Goggins Transport is adding 16 Mercedes-Benz Actros ProCabin tractor units to its fleet as the haulier looks to support driver retention and its long-term growth strategy.

The UK and Ireland-based family firm has taken delivery of 11 Actros ProCabin Big 510hp tractors and has a further five ProCabin Giga units on order for delivery later this year.

The trucks are being supplied by Mercedes-Benz dealer group eStar Truck and Van.

The Actros ProCabin Big specification features a flat floor, increased standing height, storage space and a wide sleeping bunk, alongside digital displays, connectivity and driver safety systems.

Mercedes-Benz says the ProCabin’s exterior design also reduces aerodynamic drag, helping to improve fuel consumption.

Goggins said vehicle efficiency, alongside driver comfort, was an important factor in its decision to continue with Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

Goggins, which has operational bases in Liverpool, Dublin and Wexford, said the investment was part of a strategy to retain drivers by providing higher-specification vehicles with improved comfort, safety and working conditions.

Tony Goggins, MD, said: “Our father started this business by purchasing his first Mercedes-Benz truck as a driver-owner in Galway.

“Since his passing, our commitment to Goggins’ future is absolute, and this investment is proof of our dedication to serving our customers for years to come.

“Central to delivering a quality service is driver retention, and our drivers deserve the very best equipment.

“With these high-spec Actros ProCabins, we are investing heavily in our future while also rewarding our team with a superior working environment that prioritises driver comfort, safety and wellbeing.”

Founded by Martin Goggins in 1979, the business has grown from a one-truck operation into a haulage business serving customers across the UK and Ireland.

The latest order continues its long-standing relationship with Mercedes-Benz Trucks and eStar.

Goggins added: “We are delighted to continue our history with Mercedes-Benz Trucks with the support of the team at eStar.

“It’s a long-standing relationship we value and Henry, on their aftersales team, does a great job managing the vehicles once in fleet, ensuring we can maximise their uptime.”

Joe Thompson, eStar sales executive, said the investment demonstrated Goggins’ confidence in both the Mercedes-Benz product and the dealer’s support.

Richard Waterworth, head of truck sales at eStar, added that the order reflected the relationship built with Goggins directors Tony and Declan over several years.
