Glencar has completed the construction of a 240,000 sq. ft carbon-neutral warehouse and office complex in West Dublin for freight and transport specialist PRL Logistics.

The 24 week project involved a full-fit out, including racking, sprinklers, lighting, M&E installations and associated civil engineering and enabling works.

The new development, situated at Aerodrome Business Park in Baldonell and known as Unit R, was developed by Exeter Ireland and is located near other PRL facilities.

Works also included fit-out to the three-story office space along with the provision of new welfare areas.

Speaking about the project Rory McGillycuddy, Glencar Ireland country director, said: “We were delighted to work with PRL for the first time and on this impressive new carbon neutral warehouse development in Baldonell, which is a prime location for logistics to serve Dublin and surrounding areas.

“We assembled a top team on this project and they have delivered an excellent result. We have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with PRL and the entire professional team and look forward to working with them again in the near future.

“We continue to see further strong and continued interest in our services and capabilities in Ireland and we look forward to making further announcements in due course.”

Last year Glencar, which specialises in providing construction services to the industrial, logistics, distribution manufacturing, life science and pharmaceutical sectors, completed the fit-out of a new distribution centre for IKEA at Greenogue in Dublin.

Richard Jones, PRL Logistics director, said the facility is an important milestone in the company’s drive to reduce its carbon emissions.

“Unit R is a critical component of our warehousing infrastructure, which now spans over 1 million square feet.”

“This facility stands as a testament to our commitment to adopting more sustainable business practices, aligning with our broader goal of reducing our carbon footprint.”

“At PRL we are on target to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions in 2024 by 55% due to initiatives like this net-zero warehouse and adoption of HVO,” he explained.

Jones added: “The refurbishment of this net-zero warehouse was executed to an exceptionally high standard and achieved a particularly challenging 24 week programme.

“The Glencar project management team, in particular, brought a wealth of experience to the project, demonstrating a meticulous attention to detail throughout the process.”
