David Rogers, joint MD of EM Rogers (Transport), has died, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the UK road transport sector.

David passed away in the early hours of Sunday (6 April), the company has announced this week, adding that it was “truly heartbroken” at the loss of this “true legend of the industry”, who played a central role for over 50 years in the success of the company.

”We have lost a remarkable man, a wonderful character with a fantastic sense of fun, and both EM Rogers and the Rogers family will never be the same again,” the statement added.

Founded in 1945, by David and John’s father Edward, EM Rogers (Transport) marked its 80th anniversary in 2025, having grown from a single ex-military Dodge truck into one of the UK’s best-known vehicle logistics and haulage operators.

During his many years at the family business, David, alongside his brother John, built a strong reputation for reliability, integrity and long-term customer relationships. He was devoted to the company, as he was to his family, his colleagues and his business partners, working at EM Rogers right up until the end.

Tributes from employees, industry partners and trade bodies reveal the high esteem in which David was held. The Road Haulage Association said it was “deeply saddened” to learn of his passing, describing David as “a highly respected and much-valued figure” who had made a lasting contribution to the sector through his leadership and longstanding service.

Those who worked with David consistently point to his personal qualities as much as his professional achievements.

He was widely regarded as approachable, principled and steadfast, with many highlighting his leadership qualities and his ability to build long-term relationships across the supply chain.

Colleagues and partners have described him as a “true gentleman” of the industry, combing commercial acumen with integrity and a strong sense of loyalty.

David’s passing marks the loss of a man who represented a traditional generation of haulage leadership - one built on relationships, experience and a deep knowledge of the industry.
