All staff working for a Cumbria haulage company have lost their jobs after it was placed into administration earlier this week, according to insolvency experts.
Raj Mittal and Ben Jones at FRP Advisory were appointed to J T Leyland on Monday (21 September) following “a period of challenging trading”.
The well-established haulage firm provided distribution, warehousing and storage services to customers across the UK and Europe.
Its services included full and part-load distribution, pallet deliveries and same-day courier services, supported by a fleet ranging from transit vans to 44-tonne artics. The business also operated more than 70,000sq ft of warehousing space.
Licensing records showed it had authorisation to operate 25 HGVs out of a Milnthorpe address.
FRP said rising costs led to financial pressure at the company and this led to a decision to place the business into administration.
At the time of the appointment, J T Leyland employed 43 people. FRP said all employees had now been made redundant, with a small number retained on a consultancy basis to assist the administrators with the orderly wind down of the company.
The joint administrators said it would support those affected with claims to the redundancy payments service.
Mittal said: “J T Leyland was a well-established business in the logistics and haulage sector, having built up a strong presence from its base in Milnthorpe.
“Our focus is now on managing an orderly wind down of the company’s operations, supporting employees affected by the redundancies and working closely with key stakeholders to maximise value from the company’s assets for the benefit of creditors.”
