Energy and defence logistics firm ASCO could be looking at annual savings of £194,000 after it installed fleet management software across its entire fleet.
The Aberdeen headquartered business rolled out Webfleet’s electronic braking performance monitoring system across 280 trailers to meet DVSA new testing requirements and it said this had reduced maintenance costs and vehicle downtime.
The system constantly monitors brake performance and cuts the need for more frequent rolling road brake testing.
“Our priority was to improve braking safety through continuous, proactive monitoring rather than relying solely on periodic inspections,” explained Mick Smith, ASCO transport and operations manager.
The software rollout has also helped the company address coverage gaps in its previous tracking system.
“As a key provider to the energy industry, some of our drivers are in and out of high-risk fuel terminals every day,” Smith said.
“Our previous tracking devices had to be unplugged or isolated on-site due to spark ignition risks.
“Because of this, vehicles could occasionally leave site before the devices were reconnected, creating significant gaps in our fleet data. Webfleet developed a bespoke hardwired solution to eliminate this issue.”
Remote tacho download functionality has also been installed across 102 trucks, providing the transport team with up-to-date visibility of driver hours and it said the software firm’s OptiDrive 360 platform was helping ASCO improve driver behaviour.
“Webfleet has made us all much more effective,” he added.
“It’s helped us to rewrite our driver standards and, by telling us who’s doing what, how and where, alerts us to when we should intervene.”
