AIT Home Delivery has added two new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter electric vans to its fleet to carry out urban delivery routes from its Northampton and Enfield facilities.
Supplied by NRG Riverside, the fully electric vehicles are intended to reduce urban delivery emissions and form part of the company’s long-term strategy to introduce lower-emission final-mile delivery solutions.
The eSprinter models will operate in urban areas with low-emission zones, utilizing their zero-tailpipe-emission capability for multi-drop delivery operations.
Gary McKelvey, Global Home Delivery vice president, said the investment marks a milestone in the company’s sustainability drive.
He added: “We have a duty to our customers to continually improve every aspect of the final-mile delivery experience.
“These new Mercedes-Benz eSprinters allow us to combine environmental benefits with the high levels of service, reliability and professionalism for which the company is renowned.”
Russell Markstein, NRG Riverside chief commercial officer, commented: “We are delighted to be working with AIT and making a contribution to the company’s Scope One emissions reduction efforts.”
The acquisition follows other recent fleet changes at the logistics provider aimed at reducing Scope 1 emissions.
AIT recently added 35 new MAN tractor units to its fleet, all of which are capable of running on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) fuel, which can lower lifecycle CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to standard diesel.
