West Yorkshire family firm A Davies Transport has taken delivery of 15 new Volvo FH Aeros, which are replacing similar models from a different brand.
The new FH Aero 500 6x2 tractor units join A Davies Transport’s 35-strong fleet, of which more than half are now supplied by Volvo.
The trucks, supplied by Ben Fenton, Crossroads Truck and Bus area sales manager, will operate from the Pallet Track member’s West Yorkshire base in Ossett, supporting its full load, part load and pallet network distribution services.
The company, which was founded in 2007, also offers storage and warehousing from its Ossett headquarters.
Typically on the road for five days a week, the trucks are each expected to clock up to 140,000 km annually and will stay on the fleet for the next five years.
The FH Aeros are each powered by a Euro 6-compliant D13TC Step E engine, producing 500 hp and a peak torque of 2,800 Nm. All are paired with a 12-speed automated I-Shift gearbox and I-See predictive cruise control to yield substantial sustainability and operational gains.
Inside the trucks’ Globetrotter XL cabs, the focus has been to ensure the firm’s team of drivers are as comfortable as possible. This includes leather interior, microwave oven, fridge and dual armrests.
The new FH Aeros all sport the business’ red and yellow livery – applied in an enhanced paint finish – complemented by colour-matched Alcoa Dura-Bright Alloys.
In addition to its new tractor units, A Davies Transport has also recently acquired an 18-tonne Volvo FE 4x2 rigid, which will operate locally across the Wakefield postcode.
A Davies Transport managing director, Andy Davies, said: “Volvo stood out to us for several reasons. The pricing was competitive and the reputation of the product gave us confidence that the vehicles would perform well across our UK operations.
“Our drivers have settled into the new trucks quickly and feedback has been consistently positive. They have adapted well to the updated technology onboard and the vehicles are proving to be a strong fit for our palletised distribution work.”
He added: “The level of service from Crossroads Truck and Bus also made a big difference. Their assistance and attention to detail made the decision straightforward and gave us certainty that we were choosing a partner who understands our business and the demands of the routes we run every day.”
