Nightline’s CEO has said the introduction of a postcode system in the Republic of Ireland will reduce costs and improve efficiency when delivering to customers.
John Tuohy said that the planned postcode system will improve route planning and will allow it to automate parcel sorting, much of which is currently done manually.
The parcel carrier was also involved in the government’s consultation for the system, which is scheduled to be introduced by spring 2015.
“We’re delighted with the progress,” Tuohy told Motortransport.co.uk. “This is something that the industry has been asking for for years.”
The plans, which will provide a unique seven-character code to every address in the country, were also welcomed by the Freight Transport Association Ireland (FTA Ireland).
Neil McDonnell, general manager at FTA Ireland, said: “Members will benefit greatly from this change which will make deliveries and collections more cost effective and improve the overall efficiency of the distribution of goods and services to industry and the general public.”
