The BVRLA welcomed more than 100 new members in 2015, taking its total to 780.
The latest additions mean its members’ combined fleet stands at a record 4.5 million vehicles.
According to the association, this means that BVRLA members now account for one in every five vans and trucks on the road.
BVRLA chief executive Gerry Keaney said its expanding membership was “a clear reflection of both the health of our sector and the vital role the BVRLA plays in helping these companies to operate in an increasingly regulated environment”.
He added the BVRLA would be working harder than ever this year to tackle issues the industry was facing, which it believed would include operators becoming increasingly frustrated by budget cuts for government bodies such as the DVLA, which would hold back the development of digital services.
It also predicted that the government would look to find a way to increase fuel duty in the spring budget.
