Temperature controlled distribution remains one of the key elements of the UK road transport sector, with the chilled and frozen food market estimated at more than £15bn a year.

Chilled and frozen distribution poses particular challenges to hauliers and own account operators, as transport and storage are key elements in a safe and legal supply chain.

To recognise the importance of this key specialism within the road transport industry, MT has introduced Temperature Controlled Operator of the Year, sponsored by Burnt Tree Refrigerental, as a new award in 2014.

This award is for the own account or third party operator that can demonstrate exceptionally high standards in the field of temperature controlled distribution including all the key aspects such as financial stability, hygiene, health and safety, care for the environment and innovation. It is open to specialist operators who just do chilled or frozen work or the temperature controlled operation of a multi-sector firm.

Neil Murphy, general manager of Burnt Tree Refrigerental, said: “When Motor Transport told Burnt Tree of this new category, it made perfect sense for Refrigerental to sponsor the award. It is a perfect fit for our exciting new temperature controlled rental business and we look forward to being part of the judging panel and reviewing the entries.”
