Scotland will get £66m of investment in its transport links including extra funding to explore upgrades to the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway, the Treasury announced.
The UK government said it was boosting investment across Scotland through four investment zones and five advanced manufacturing sites from the Forth Green Freeport to the Prestwick Aerospace Cluster.
The £66m will fund three transport schemes and create direct links between towns in the west of Scotland.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves said: “We’re pledging billions to back Scottish jobs, industry and renewal - that’s why we’re investing in the major transport projects, including exploring upgrades to the A75, that local communities have been calling for.”
The Treasury added that £3.45m was being invested to explore upgrades to the A75, a key road linking the Cairnryan port serving Northern Ireland with the rest of the UK.
Jonathan Walker, head of infrastructure policy at Logistics UK, said strengthening transport links between GB and Northern Ireland and local connections in Scotland had long been a priority for its members: “Logistics businesses rely on strong transport links between ports on both sides of the Irish Sea to ensure the seamless delivery of goods between business and consumers and investment on the critical A75 route would reinforce supply chain links across the country, which is to be welcomed,” he said.
