Meachers Global Logistics has signed a five-year agreement with broadband provider Toob to act as its national distribution centre across the south of England.

As part of the deal, Meachers has extended its warehouse, logistics and transport facilities over an additional half an acre at Solent Gateway in Marchwood.

Toob is investing £50m into the city’s digital infrastructure to provide around 100,000 homes and businesses in Southampton with broadband connectivity – with plans to expand its network within the region to one million homes.

The broadband provider claims to deliver download speeds 14 times faster and upload speeds 64 times faster than the UK average.

Gary Whittle, commercial director at Meachers, welcomed the deal.

He said: “Meachers is delighted to provide the infrastructure and logistics support for Toob as it expands its exciting full-fibre broadband network in Southampton and across the south. We are proud to be able to offer the infrastructure and services required to help make it a real success.

“We have increased our warehousing capacity by 20% since the start Covid-19 and we are confident that we can meet all global business needs, of whatever size.”

Sean Teggart (pictured), technology director at Toob, said: “Southampton is our first city and is at the centre of our plans to bring our hyper-speed full-fibre network to one million homes and small businesses in the region.

“We have chosen Meachers to operate our distribution centre, due to the completeness of its solution, its proven expertise and the reach its service offering provides to the geography that we wish to serve.

“We want to reach our customers as quickly as possible and need a logistics partner which will provide high-quality support to a demanding construction and roll-out programme. I am confident that we have made the right connection with the Meachers team to help us achieve that.”
