Matthew Kibble Transport (MKT) has purchased Kent-based operator Shakespeare Transport for an undisclosed sum.
STL will keep its own identity as part of the deal, but will adopt a new livery in the Matthew Kibble colours of red and white. Its MD Nicholas Verrall will remain in the role for at least a year. Longer-term he plans to retire.
MKT’s MD Matthew Kibble said that while the two companies have different operational priorities – Shakespeare Transport does a lot of pallet work with Palletways, whereas MKT specialises more in general haulage – he is confident the deal will be a success.
The companies will continue to operate independently, but will benefit from the increased buying power and reduced costs the collaboration will present.
Kibble added: “This is a great opportunity that has presented itself for both Nick and myself. We are both very keen to continue the reputation of STL and build up on it.”
Nicholas Verrall said “This is a great opportunity for both parties and I’m confident that we will seek out best practice in both companies”.
Six new Volvos and six trailers will join Matthew Kibble’s fleet in the coming weeks. Kibble added that he would consider more such deals is the opportunities present themselves.”
