Maritime Transport has added two new strings to its bow with the opening of a depot at DP London Gateway and the purchase of a truckstop in Alconbury.
The three acre site at London Gateway is the first transport depot at the new port, and with six deep-water berths and close proximity to London, Maritime said the decision to operate there was “an easy one”.
“As a multi-port operator we wanted to have a substantial presence at the dock which we have achieved with this centre, the first of its kind,” said Simon Smart, MD of container transport at Maritime.
The operator has also completed the acquisition of the Alconbury truckstop from the Heys Group, which decided to sell the venue earlier this year for an undisclosed sum.
The site will be run as a separate entity to Maritime Transport.
John Williams, group MD at Maritime, said: “We are pleased to have reached a deal to buy Alconbury Truckstop. The site is ideally located on the A1(M) and represents a long-term strategic investment for the group.”
