Around 150 workers at a factory making key components for HGVs are set to go out on strike next month, with their union claiming it could cause delays for some of the biggest truck makers.
Staff at spare parts manufacturer CNC Speedwell in Walsall said they were furious that their demands for a £1 pay rise had been rejected and they intended to walk out in February.
The company produces key components for lorries, including Volvo, Scania and DAF.
Chris Hoofe, GMB union organiser, said: “These workers are key to the heavy goods vehicle sector, producing components for companies across the UK.
“This strike could have a real impact and even a month of delays for some of the biggest brands in the industry.
“It’s time for company bosses to get back around the table and deliver the goods.”
CNC was acquired by Castings plc in 1996 and its website said that since then it had embarked on a programme of significant expansion:
“We work as Tier 2 to the Castings plc foundries, machining and assembling chassis and powertrain components for the commercial vehicle and related industries in both Europe and the USA, and as Tier 1 to the automotive industry,” it added.
CNC Speedwell was approached for comment.
