Police in the Midlands arrested the driver of an HGV who “deliberately” crashed through the barriers on the M6 toll road this week in order to avoid paying the charge.

The lorry driver is now due to appear in court following the extraordinary incident on Tuesday (2 September), which caused £1,200 of damage.

The incident took place along the Staffordshire stretch of the 27-mile private motorway.

The motorway’s owner, Midland Expressway, said in order to use the entire toll road, HGVs categorised as class five have to pay an £18.20 fee.
