Lewis Tankers at Vivergo Fuel refinery

Lewis Tankers has won a three year distribution contract with Vivergo Fuels, transporting bioethanol to refineries across the UK.

The contract will see Lewis Tankers distribute bioethanol from the fuel firm's  biorefinery in Saltend, near Hull, Humberside - which is expected to become fully operational this quarter - to major fuel suppliers across the UK.

Lewis Tankers will initially manage the operation out of its headquarters in Hensall, North Yorkshire, but expects to review this as volumes increase and planning may be moved on-site.

Stewart MacDonald, MD of Lewis Tankers, said: “This is an important contract win for us. We will be responsible for all Vivergo Fuels’ UK distribution, which, when production reaches full capacity, means we will have a fleet of 20-plus dedicated road tanks delivering over 3.5 million litres of bioethanol every week.”

Vivergo Fuels expects to turn 1.1m tonnes of wheat into bioethanol every year.
