An investigation has begun into the death of a B&M lorry driver at a Bristol distribution centre on Sunday (8 December).

Local press reports said the driver was in the parking area of a DHL warehouse in Avonmouth when the fatal incident occurred.

DHL said it was aware of the death of a B&M colleague: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family,” a spokeswoman added.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: “We were called at 04:37hrs on Sunday 8 December to an incident in Avonmouth.

“We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, and the hazardous area response team to the scene.”

Motor Transport approached Avon and Somerset police for comment and a spokesman said the Health and Safety Executive was leading the investigation.

A HSE spokesperson said: “We are leading the investigation into this incident and remain in contact with Avon and Somerset Police.”

B&M described the incident as “truly heartbreaking”.

A spokeswoman for the retailer added: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“At this moment, we are working closely with the relevant authorities and conducting a thorough investigation to establish all the facts surrounding this tragic incident.

“In the meantime, our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the family and loved ones affected during this incredibly difficult time.”
