Over 20 delivery drivers for pharmaceutical wholesale supplier Ethigen have won an improved pay offer after successful negotiations between union Unite and the company’s management.

The East Kilbride distribution drivers pay hike amounts to an additional £1,600 over the next 12 months, which will be backdated to 1 April.

The Ethigen drivers supply and distribute pharmaceutical products to independent and high street pharmacies across the UK.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Unite is delivering for our members at Ethigen. It’s a good deal which puts more money into our members’ pockets and secures them better pay and conditions.”

Unite industrial officer David McGurk added: “We are pleased to have successfully negotiated this wage win for our members. It demonstrates the value in being a member of Unite as the deal will help our members cope with the rising cost of living.”

Ethigen, which is based in East Kilbride, has a turnover of over £190m. Launched in 2000, it supplies and delivers pharmaceuticals to hospital, clinics and GPs across the UK and Ireland.

It employs 300 staff, including buyers, field and office based sales, accounts team, IT team, delivery drivers and warehouse operatives.
