Transaid’s Kilimanjaro to Coast Cycle Challenge has so far raised £200,000, with 36 riders cycling 454km across Tanzania – including Motor Transport’s head of marketing Steve Cox.
The event saw the cyclists from across the transport and logistics sector set off from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro to the country’s Indian Ocean coastline, taking in breathtaking scenery along the way.
The challenge was supported by the British International Freight Association (BIFA) as headline sponsor, alongside Chelsea Group as supporting sponsor.
All the money raised will support the charity’s road safety and access to healthcare projects.

Pawel Jarza, policy, compliance and external affairs director at BIFA and challenge participant, said: “Completing this cycle challenge was such an incredible experience. While the route tested us physically, it also provided a powerful insight into the communities Transaid supports and the role that transport plays in improving lives.
“Knowing that together we raised £200,000 makes every kilometre worthwhile.”
Cox described the scenery as “stunning” and he added: “On the final day of the challenge, we visited one of the many projects Transaid supports and saw first-hand how the funds raised are making a real difference to road safety and healthcare in local communities.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has generously sponsored me. It was one of the most challenging, inspiring and rewarding experiences I’ve ever taken part in.”
Cox added that he is now close to reaching his fundraising target and anyone wanting to support the cause can do so at his JustGiving page: www.justgiving.com/page/steve-cox-4
