The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has today (5 September) become the first organisation in the country to receive official accreditation as Diabetes Safe from the Diabetes Safety Organisation, marking a significant milestone in workplace health and safety.
RHA said the accreditation recognises its commitment to understanding and managing diabetes-related risks within the road transport sector.
Commenting on the accreditation, RHA MD, Richard Smith said: “Diabetes is a hidden but growing risk in our industry and across the country.
“This welcome accreditation shows we’re serious about protecting our people and leading by example in actively addressing emerging health challenges.”
The announcement comes as the association prepares to launch new Diabetes Safe Driving Guidance for Employers in the transport sector, which covers HGV, coach and van operators.
The guidance will be unveiled at the RHA Future Forum in Birmingham on 11 September.
The new guidance aims to provide practical support for employers in managing diabetes-related safety considerations in their operations.
