Logistics UK has partnered with EyeLab to provide members with access to discounted online eyesight screening for commercial vehicle drivers.
The partnership was launched at Logistics UK’s Fleet Engineer Conference on 18 June and will give members access to EyeLab’s SeeDrivePro eyesight screening test.
The online test has been developed by optometrists and vision scientists and is designed to help operators monitor driver eyesight standards in line with DVLA and DVSA requirements.
Available for HGV and PSV drivers, as well as company car and van drivers, the screening is intended to help operators identify potential eyesight issues between routine medical examinations.
Logistics UK said maintaining records of driver eyesight checks is an important part of demonstrating compliance with operator licensing requirements and managing driver fitness.
Jemma James (pictured), Logistics UK director of partnerships and digital services, said: “Demonstrating effective eyesight monitoring procedures helps show that a company is fulfilling its duty of care to its drivers and complying with legal obligations, which is essential for maintaining the ‘good repute’ required to hold an operator licence.
“This simple test from EyeLab is designed to be used annually as a routine fleet check and takes just a few minutes per driver.
“It does not replace a full medical but is a great way to identify and prevent problems before they escalate.
“Ultimately, proactive management of drivers’ eyesight protects public safety, reduces risk and safeguards the business’s ability to operate.”
According to Logistics UK, the screening test is aligned with DVLA and DVSA Snellen visual acuity standards and can provide documented evidence of eyesight monitoring to support compliance requirements, including those of the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS).
The organisation said the test will be available to Logistics UK members at a discounted rate of £4 per screening.
