The hunt is once again on to find the country’s most skilled crane truck operative after Huddersfield Mac’s Truck Group launched its inaugural event in 2025.
The Official British Crane Truck Operator Challenge on 5 September at the company’s HQ is open to anyone who believes they have the skills to complete a demanding series of tasks designed to assess precision, control, accuracy and composure under pressure.
Mac’s said this year there was a larger prize fund, redesigned challenges and a packed programme of activities for competitors, industry professionals and their families.
Refreshed for this year’s event, the new tests have been designed in response to feedback from previous participants and created to replicate the levels of skill, concentration and operational control required in real-world situations.
The winning competitor will take home £1,500, with £1,000 handed out to second place and £500 for third.
Mac’s will also be showcasing its full range of trucks available to buy or rent, as well as opening the doors to the company’s 30-bay workshop, where all the vehicles are manufactured.
Alex McDade, sales director at Mac’s Truck Group, said: “Last year’s event exceeded our expectations, with the hotly fought contest demonstrating just how much talent is required to be a crane truck operator.
“Most competitors perform this highly skilled work every day, so we created the operator challenge as a way for them to showcase their abilities, learn from their peers, and of course, try the latest FASSI equipment.
“For 2026, we’ve raised the prize fund and introduced some testing new challenges, whilst also ramping up the food, drink, entertainment and more to ensure it’s a fantastic day out for the industry and their families.”
