Linwood, Renfrewshire logistics firm the Malcolm Group has taken delivery of 40 Volvo FM11 tractive units, following a fuel trial in which it achieved over 9mpg.
The Euro-5 Globetrotter-cabbed tractor units, all 6x2s with the 450hp D11C engine and Volvo’s I-Shift automated gearbox, were supplied by Volvo Truck & Bus Centre North & Scotland’s Cardonald headquarters in Glasgow. They join a fleet of 475 vehicles, around 200 of which are Volvo trucks.
“Currently, the Volvo FM11 tractor units are fleet leaders on fuel economy and we have recently placed another multi-vehicle order for some of the last of these Euro-5 engine FM models,” said the firm’s group chief executive, Andrew Malcolm.
The new vehicles are all being used to haul 4.5m high curtainsided trailers and were specified with Kuda roof-mounted air deflectors.
The firm has previously used Volvo’s I-Shift automated transmission in an FMX tipper used by its construction services division, where it is now part of the standard spec.
- Volvo’s FMX range of tippers will be among the stars at the forthcoming Tip-ex show, which runs from 30 May to 1 June.
