The FTA can now offer mobile inspections for companies whose workshop facilities are not available during the COVID-19 lockdown.

It said its vehicle inspection service remains operational for both members and non-members and that it was vital operators put measures in place now to start returning mothballed fleets to roadworthy condition.

Experts currently predict a partial lift of the government’s lockdown restrictions in four to six weeks’ time.

As well as carrying out mobile inspections, it said it could also supplement staff with its own engineers who can perform mandatory inspections and minor run repair services and make engineers available for weekend and out-of-hours inspections.

The FTA has also altered its inspection processes so that services can continue to be delivered while minimising the risk of infection.

These alterations include delivering inspections at an operator’s site of choice, processes to avoid physically meeting with staff and the use of disposable gloves by engineers.
