Employees from DHL Supply Chain and Kuehne + Nagel were among the winners of the FTA Everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards today (21 June).
Celebrating 10 years of the event, Everywoman founders Maxine Benson and Karen Gill said much had changed in the industry since its inception, but that there was still work to do for diversity in the sector.
Winners included O'Donovan Waste Disposal MD Jacqueline O'Donovan, who was named the Industry Champion of the Year.
Tracy Ward, contract manager at PD Ports received the Above and Beyond award in the Freight category, while CM Downton's Jannette Wallace won the Freight Leader award.
In the Supply Chain category, Jeny Hanvey from Kuehne + Nagel and Post Office's Gillian Joyce won the Above and Beyond and Leader awards respectively.
The Woman of the Year award was given to Asda Logistics Services change manager Julie McCarthy, who said: "I've never felt like a woman in transport, and that says a lot. I work in a diverse team which is something we should all be building towards."
FTA chief executive David Wells said: "This is an awards ceremony with a purpose, which gives it great importance. Why are women so underrepresented? It is absolutely not the case that you need to be big and beefy to drive a truck, with the state of modern technology."
