A report analysing supply chains has found that while most companies have achieved end-to-end shipment visibility, far fewer can turn that data into the actions required to stay competitive.
The report, published by FedEx, surveyed 700 professionals in logistics, operations and supply chains and found most expressed confidence in their ability to track shipments – but there was a gap between what organisations could see and what they could do.
It found that just 59% of companies used data proactively to predict and prevent issues, with 25% using it reactively and 11% using the data for visibility into current issues.
FedEx said consumer expectations for reliability, transparency and proactive communication were accelerating the need for logistics intelligence at every touchpoint and limited visibility and delays remained the most common shipping-related complaints.
Its report said modernised, connected systems and AI-powered insights would build future readiness and enable companies to predict disruptions earlier and respond with greater speed.
“Many organisations can see what’s happening in their supply chains, but leaders in the space can predict and act fast enough when it matters most,” said Jason Brenner, a senior VP at FedEx.
“Closing the gap with logistics intelligence, supported by analytics, AI and close partnerships with your carrier, will help organisations move from reacting to disruptions to anticipating them, minimising impact and delivering a leading customer experience.”
